THE VAST AUTOMATON

Industrial Art Biennale 05
Factory Girl is a body that both produces and is mass produced, simultaneously. A body that never rests, that sweats oil and spits glitter. Images generated by artificial intelligence reverberate like an assembly line: every face, every gesture, is a symbolic unit vacuum-sealed and ready to circulate in the market of subjectivities. To be a woman here is to inhabit a continuous line of production and reproduction: mother, daughter, lover, teacher, lover again. A body that works in the factory and, at the same time, is the factory itself.
The installation points to a logistics melancholy: the excruciating weight of residues left behind by every movement. Like a machine that generates more waste than product, each image is also its own trash. AI both liberates and accelerates the rhythm: for every act of creation, three volumes of digital junk. The factory does not only produce objects/subjects, it produces exhaustion, fatigue, excess—an invisible and omnipresent surplus that accumulates in the body as a melancholic burden, a sadness forged in stainless steel.
Factory Girl vibrates in the friction between the craftsmanship of haute couture and the cold repetition of heavy industry. Haute couture of subjectivity: stitch by stitch, image by image, a fragile and sophisticated self is constructed under the hammering rhythm of the assembly line. Between delicacy and mechanization, the installation opens a critical space where the factory and the body move forward as two synchronous automatisms.
